VIRTUAL CLASSROOM

Google Classroom

Google Classroom is the platform we use to set online homework across the whole school. This is also the platform that we will be using in the event that your child needs to engage in remote/home learning.  Children have been provided with logins for Google Classroom, and classrooms can be accessed by signing in at classroom.google.com (Please ensure any other Google accounts used on the device are logged out before trying to access the classroom. No class code is required if you are trying to access the correct Google Classroom using the correct login.)

Google Classroom is a web service developed by Google for schools that aims to simplify creating, distributing, and marking online work. The main purpose is to simplify the sharing of files between teachers and pupils. Any work needed to be completed at home will be uploaded on to your Google Classroom, with any links and resources there to help you, all in one place. Teachers can add comments to support children's work and can see when work has been completed.

Teachers will also use this platform to support with reminders that are needed throughout the year.

Our Google Suite for Education domain has been set up via Havering's existing London Grid for Learning system, and additional information regarding privacy and security can be found here:https://edu.google.com/intl/en_uk/why-google/privacy-security/   If you have any questions or concerns regarding Google Classroom, please contact the school office for more information.

REMOTE LEARNING

DfE non-statutory guidance for remote learning acknowledges that there may still be some circumstances where remote education may be appropriate in cases where it is not possible, or contrary to government guidance, for some or all pupils to attend face-to-face education.

The DfE Covid-19 guidance (29th March 2022) states that:

Attendance is mandatory for all pupils of compulsory school age. Schools should consider providing remote education to pupils in circumstances when in-person attendance is either not possible or contrary to government guidance.

This might include:

  • occasions when school leaders decide that it is not possible for their setting to open safely, or that opening would contradict guidance from local or central government.
  • occasions when individual pupils, for a limited duration, are unable to physically attend their school but are able to continue learning, for example pupils with an infectious illness.

At Scotts Primary School, decisions relating to the provision of remote education will be taken based on communications with parents, the nature and anticipated length of absence, as well as the pupil's health and wellbeing.
